Apple Antara, a place to let your ideas dream.
To launch Apple’s first Latin American flagship, Apple Antara in Mexico City, we developed a concept that would resonate with the culture and the people of the city.
The Mexican artist Pedro Linares once had a dream of a forest with colorful animals that were covered on beautiful patterns. Inspired by his dream, the artist created wooden figures replicating these animals and gave them the name of Alebrijes. This mythological art became Mexico City’s Heritage and a strong icon of the Mexican culture.
Apple believes in the power of creativity and this magical creatures show us how far Mexican creativity can go. That’s why we created our very own world of Alebrijes using Apple tools and icons for the art to inspire the people from Mexico City to visit Apple Antara and take their ideas to unique places.
Even Tim Cook shared the news.
A 23x129 ft (7x39 m) barricade with over 50 original alebrijes was entirely created on iPad using Apple Pencil. The barricade would cover the entire store during the seven days previous to the opening. The design required an extraordinary level of detail due to the size of the barricade and the possible proximity of the people, it was the biggest and more complex outdoor piece ever made on an iPad.
This poster was created to live in the store, as an invitation for the Apple team to be the inspiration for all the visitor. A Grad Card was also given to the store employees prior to the opening.
The opening of Apple Antara would also be announced on apple.com and through DMs.
An animated version of the barricade was displayed on the massive 6k video wall inside the store during the opening weekend.
Apple Antara received thousands of visitors on the opening day.
Mexican illustrator and muralist, Edgar Flores, led a Today at Apple session and created a communal art piece.
Girl Ultra performed at Apple Antara during opening night.
